With their broad leaves, bright flowers, and distinctive rosette formations, orange bromeliads are a great way to add a tropical ambience to your space.

These terrestrial plants only live for about a year, but will produce 'pups' that will grow into full-sized plants.

Their colourful flowers and bright, vivid leaves make them fantastic gifts (and, even though they're originally from South America, they're ideal habitats for native frogs).

Plant Type: Garden Plant

Hardiness Zone (AU): Zone 5 (Tropical), Zone 4 (Subtropical), and Zone 3 (Temperate)

Soil pH: Acidic (5–6.5)

Sun Exposure: Dappled Sun and Partial Sun (3–6 hours direct / day)

Botanical Name

Aechmea blanchetiana

Care Instructions

Orange bromeliads prefer dappled sunlight, but can be acclimatised to partial or even full sunlight over time. Keep in mind that full summer sun on the Gold Coast may burn your bromeliad's leaves.

Bromeliads are hardy, but do need free-draining soil to avoid root rot. If you choose to keep yours as house plants, make sure you feed them regularly. Pour both water and plant food directly into the centre of the bromeliad – it's a natural cup that your plant uses to collect moisture and nutrients in the wild.
